This book covers the basic information that most addicts already know. Using guilt to drive someone to right behavior is not always effective. I was hoping the author spoke more of the thinking patterns that leads to "acting out", and ways to actually get help, besides "finding a sponsor." Not a bad book, but very very basic from someone who experienced physical and emotional abuse. I was hoping he addressed questions like "how did the abuse lead to the addiction?" "What sort of things were addressed with the counselors that gave real hope for recovery? " "how do you go about finding a counselor when you are too broken to ask for help?" Sometimes it feels like a waste of time reading these books. What is the role of the Savior if in reality you have to save yourself?Product details

I Once Had a Date Named Lust edition by Dr Simon Whittaker Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
I just finished reading this book and I love it! It truly revealed truths that I lacked awareness of. I've been blessed to read this book and now I am "paying it forward" by passing it along to everyone I know. I would recommend this to anyone, not just those who struggle with lust and or sexual addictions or demons, but anyone who struggled in maintaining their relationships with loved ones...you never know, you might be addicted to love!
"I Once Had a Date Named Lust" provides a unique recipe for successfully overcoming love and sex addiction. This book immediately grabs the reader's attention through a vivid depiction of how love and sex addiction can be shaped by environmental and emotional factors. Unlike most books on the subject matter, Dr. Whittaker shares his personal struggles and triumphs with love and sex addiction. Each chapter offers knowledge, support, and validation to the reader. The knowledge imparted by the author also provides very practical methods for obtaining and maintaining freedom from addiction. Individuals who are not ready for change should not purchase this book. As soon as the reader opens this book, they can feel that "help is on the way"!
I needed to hear from this. Someone else has had problems with lust. I need to read it again and again. steve
This is an excellent 'primer' for the person who wonders if (s)he has, or is on the way to having, a sexual addiction. It is written by a college professor but reads clearly and simply as if he is carrying on a personal conversation with you. His own story at the beginning removes all doubt about his struggle with this addiction--here is a man who has "been there, done that" and has experienced genuine recovery. I wish I had read this many years ago, before I had destroyed two marriages.
